The talented Renee van Asten is now a Barça Women player. The 19-year-old new blaugrana signing has joined from Ajax and was officially introduced today alongside president Joan Laporta, board member and director responsible for women's football Xavier Puig, and board member Àngel Riudalbàs.
"I am very proud"
In her first interview with the media, the Netherlands player showed her great pride at joining FC Barcelona, stating "It means a lot to me, it's a great honour". "My heart started beating very fast", assured Van Asten when asked about the moment she heard the blaugranes were interested.
"I thought it made sense that this was the next step in my career. There was a very good connection and I wanted to come here", stated the defender, who defined herself as "aggressive" and "versatile". When it comes to her objectives as a blaugrana, she confirmed that she wants "to win everything with the team".
She also said that she has spoken with her compatriot Esmee Brugts, who played an important role in her signing for the Club, confirming that "I spoke with her and she said that she feels really good. I am happy I can be with her".
The relationship between the Netherlands and Barça
In fact, she also spoke about the ties between Barça and the Netherlands, referring to Johan Cruyff by stating that "It's a great honour that you mention Cruyff and me in the same sentence. Cruyff is a great example for everyone". And she looked really thrilled about being able to play in the stadium named in his honour, the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
