FC Barcelona have confirmed the first friendly fixture of the 2026/27 pre-season campaign. Hansi Flick’s side will face Birmingham City on 31 July at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, a stadium inaugurated in 1906 and widely regarded as one of the most iconic and historic grounds in English football. The stadium has a capacity of 29,409 spectators.
The match will be Barça’s first pre-season friendly during the training camp that the first team will hold at St George’s Park, where the squad will be based from 27 July to 3 August.
Birmingham City currently compete in the Championship, the second tier of English football, after finishing tenth in the division last season.
Previous meetings
FC Barcelona and Birmingham City met on five occasions in the former Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, the predecessor of today’s UEFA Europa League.
The first meetings came in the semi-finals of the 1957/58 edition, when Barça overcame the English side after a tie that required a play-off match in Basel. Two years later, the teams met again in the 1959/60 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final, with Barça emerging victorious by an aggregate score of 4–1 to claim the trophy.
Overall, the historical record favours the Catalans, who have recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat in five meetings. The match at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park on 31 July will mark the first encounter between the two clubs in more than six decades.
