The splendid, spring-like day encouraged FC Barcelona members to take part in the club’s fifteenth presidential elections, and the response was excellent. The sun shone over the city, as well as across the rest of Catalonia and Andorra, accompanying an election day that proved an example of civic spirit and democracy.

At Spotify Camp Nou polling station, the turnout of members at the ballot boxes was massive from early in the morning. And the celebration of Barça identity also spread to Girona, Tarragona, Lleida and Andorra. Barça beats strongly and belongs to its members, who have spoken loud and clear to choose the president and Board of Directors who, from 1 July onward, will lead the club for the next five years.

Once the ballot boxes had closed, board secretary and vice-president Josep Cubells announced a turnout of 48,480 votes, representing 42.34% of the 114,504 registered members. At the Spotify Camp Nou polling station, 43,282 members voted; in Girona, 2,223; in Tarragona, 1,672; in Lleida, 741; and in Andorra, 562.

Matchday

For the first time in the club’s history, FC Barcelona members were able to vote while a match was being played at Spotify Camp Nou, something that also helped boost participation. 4,178 members purchased discounted tickets to attend the 5-2 victory over Sevilla, while 35,675 entered using their season tickets. In total, almost 40,000 members (39,853 to be precise) were in the stadium on this election day.

Meanwhile, media coverage was, as expected, extensive. More than 300 professionals from 71 media outlets were accredited.

Barça personalities

Throughout the day, several prominent figures from the Barça world cast their votes, including Aitana Bonmatí, the Ballon d’Or winner who is currently recovering from injury and did not travel with the women’s team to La Coruña; Barça legends Sergio Busquets, Carles Rexach and Xavi Hernández; former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Joan Gaspart; sporting director Deco; and football coordinator Bojan Krkić. Representing the political sphere were former presidents of the Generalitat Jordi Pujol and Artur Mas, as well as the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun.

A large number of professionals from the club’s sporting sections voted, along with several players from the men’s first team (Cubarsí, Pedri, Gerard Martín, Raphinha, Dani Olmo and Casadó) together with their coach, Hansi Flick.
