On 26 May 2024 João Cancelo made the final appearance of his first spell as a Barça player against Sevilla in the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium on the final day of the league season. The Portuguese full back played 84 minutes before being replaced by Héctor Fort in the 2-1 win for the blaugranes. 

On Sunday, 601 days later, the João Cancelo returned to action in a Barça shirt after arriving on loan from Saudi club Al-Hilal in January. The defender played 37 minutes of the 2-1 defeat against Real Sociedad in Anoeta after replacing Alejandro Balde in the second half. 

Cancelo featured at left back and gave his all as the blaugranes searched for an equaliser that unfortunately eluded them in San Sebastián.
