There’s good news for Roony Bardghji. The Swedish forward, one of the standout performers in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club, has now been registered with the first team. Until now, the winger was officially listed with Barça Atlètic and wore the number 28. From this Sunday’s Super Cup final onwards, he will don the number 19 as a fully fledged first-team squad number.

Curiosuly, number 19 is a shirt Bardghji already wore during this summer’s pre-season friendlies.

Other 19s

The number 19 is one of the most storied shirts in recent Barça history. Since Portuguese midfielder Lluís Carreras wore it in the 1995/96 season, a long list of well-known names have followed.

They include Juan Antonio Pizzi (1996–98), Patrick Kluivert (1998/99), Dani García Lara (1999–03), Fernando Navarro (2004/05), Leo Messi (2005–08), Maxwell (2009–12), Martín Montoya (2012/13), Ibrahim Afellay (2013/14), Sandro Ramírez (2015/16), Lucas Digne (2016–18), Munir El Haddadi (2018), Kevin-Prince Boateng (2019), Carles Aleñá (2019), Martin Braithwaite (2020), Matheus Fernandes (2020/21), ‘Kun’ Agüero (2021), Ferran Torres (2022), Franck Kessié (2022/23), Vitor Roque (2024) and Lamine Yamal (2024/25).

The number had been vacant since last summer, when Lamine Yamal switched to the iconic number 10.
