Barça have turned themselves into a brace-scoring machine. The latest, from Ferran Torres against Getafe, takes the tally to five this season – and from five different players. No other side across Europe’s top five leagues can match that record.

Three against Valencia

And the spree has all come in the last three games. It began when Valencia visited the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Barça produced their finest performance of the campaign, romping to a 6-0 win. It was a catharsis of attacking football, and three men shared the spotlight – Fermín Lopez, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski all finding the net twice apiece.

Rashford in Newcastle

Marcus Rashford soon picked up the baton. Just four days later, in the Champions League debut at St James’ Park, the Englishman enjoyed his first big night in a Barça shirt. A towering header followed by a thunderous drive settled the European opener and made it four braces for the season, each by a different player.

Ferran against Getafe

And so to the “Shark” himself, Ferran Torres. Nobody embodies this team’s hunger better. Outstanding against Valencia without scoring, and a lively substitute at Newcastle, this time he struck twice. First came a stunning finish from Dani Olmo’s inch-perfect backheeled pass, then another composed strike after service from Raphinha.

Denied a hat-trick by the crossbar, Ferran still moved on to four goals for the season, while Barça’s overall brace count rose to five – more than anyone in Europe’s big five leagues. Eintracht Frankfurt, Juventus and Bayern Munich are closest behind, with four apiece.
