Hansi Flick: league champion again
Barça coach Hansi Flick knows what he is doing when it comes to league titles. In each of the three seasons he has coached a team in the league, the German has ended up champion, twice in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and now in La Liga with FC Barcelona.
The most honest
“It’s the most honest title, there are 38 matches. If at the end you are top of the table then and you win it then it’s the most truthful trophy,” is how Hansi Flick defined the league title in a press conference ahead of the recent Clásico against Real Madrid at Montjuïc. As such, it is no surprise to see the German coach’s delight at helping the team to being a 28th league title to the trophy cabinet at FC Barcelona Musuem. The road has been long but it has ended in success thanks to the coach’s planning and hard work.
It has not been easy and there have been up and downs but the main objective for the season has been achieved. With the 2024/25 league title under his belt, the coach has now had success in each season he has competed for the league, the latest to be added to his two successes in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
All started at Bayern
Hansi Flick’s success in the domestic league began in his first season in charge at Bayern Munich. The 2019/20 season saw success for the Bavarian club with a squad replete with talented names such as Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcántara and Philippe Coutinho. Flick’s Bayern ended the campaign with a 23-game unbeaten run that led them to the Bundesliga title.
The following season the German coach repeated the feat in 2020/21, his final campaign with Bayern before departing. After a spell as national coach in Germany, Flick has retained his knack in the domestic competition in his first campaign in Spain, guiding Barça to well-deserved La Liga trophy.
It may have seen easy for Hansi Flick this season, but not many coaches have conquered La Liga in their first season at Barça. Flick joing a list of names tha contains James Bellamy, Josep Samitier, Enrique Fernández, Terry Venables, Van Gaal, Guardiola, Tito Vilanova, Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde.
If we take into account the fact that he has also done the Copa del Rey and league double, only Louis Van Gaal, Ernesto Valverde, Luis Enrique and Pep Guardiola can boast of having also achieved such a feat. The German coach is adding new pages to FC Barcelona’s history and it appears that Hansi Flick still has more to give as Barça coach.
