FC Barcelona never give up - that is something we saw on Wednesday in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.  In the semi-final first leg of the Champions League, Barça came back from 2-0 down and then 3-2 down to salvage a 3-3 draw and give themselves hope of turning things around in the Guiseppe Meazza stadium in Milan next Tuesday against Internazionale. 

Previous record 

What is Barça's record after drawing the first leg of a European tie at home? Well, it has happened on 15 occasions and on no less than seven of those Barça has made it to the next round. 

On two occasions Barça have done it against Italian opposition: in the semi-finals of the 1997 European Cup Winners Cup in 1997, Barça drew 1-1 at home against Fiorentina then won 2-0 away in the Artemio Franchi stadium to reach the final. In 2022, in a Europa League play off round, the blaugranes were held 1-1 at home by Napoli before winning 4-2 in the second leg in Italy.

And Inter Milan? 

For their part Inter Milan have done well after drawing the first leg of a European tie at home. 21 draws away have led to the Italians making it through to the next round on 15 occasions. On one occasion they did not make it through was against a side from La Liga. In the UEFA Cup in the 2000/2001 season in the last 16 the nerazzuri draw 3-3 in Vitoria against Alavés before losing the second leg 2-0 in Milan.
