Ronald Koeman, the final expert

The current Barça coach has had a hand in 30 finals, 20 as a player and 10 as a coach

On Saturday Ronald Koeman will take part in his 31st final as a professional. The Barça appeared in 20 as a player and as a coach it will be his 10th final. His most famous final appearance came in the 1992 European Cup when he scored the only goal of the game at Wembley in the victory over Sampdoria. But what about the rest?

Of the 20 he played in, he won 11 and lost nine. He was on the winning side in two European Cups, one with PSV and one with Barça, a Copa del Rey with Barça, three Dutch cups with Ajax and PSV, three Spanish Super Cups with Barça as well as a Spanish Super Cup. With the Netherlands he also was a winner in the 1988 European Championships final.

As a coach he has won five of the 10 he has appeared in. He has won the Dutch Cup with Ajax, two Dutch Super Cups, one with Ajax and the other with AZ Alkmaar, a Portuguese Super Cup with Benfica and a Copa del Rey with Valencia.

Looking for his first trophy with Barça

After 30 finals, 16 won and 14 lost, the Dutchman will be looking for victory number 17 on Saturday against Athletic Club in La Cartuja, which would be his first as Barça coach.

His only final so far as Barça coach came against Athletic Club in the 3-2 defeat in the Spanish Super Cup, also played in La Cartuja.

Ronald Koeman, two from two

Ronald Koeman has already appeared in two previous Copa del Rey finals, one as player for Barça in which the blaugranes lifted the trophy with a 2-0 over Real Madrid in 1990 and another as Valencia coach in 2008 which ended in a 3-1 win over Getafe for los che.
