The next challenges facing Barça after a good start to 2021
An exciting month of February begins for FC Barcelona as they will play seven games at least in 26 days with three competitions involved: the Copa del Rey, the league and the Champions League.
Ronald Koeman's squad will take on the challenge reinvigorated by an excellent month of January, the only disappointment in 2021 so far being the extra time defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final against Athletic Club.
La Liga: to continue the best start to the year since 2011
In the domestic league Ronald Koeman's team have a 100% record so far in 2021 with five wins out of five; Huesca, Granada, Elche and Athletic Club twice have all been dispatched to claim 15 points from a possible 15, a start to a calendar year that has not been seen since 2011 with Pep Guardiola as coach. In February the blaugranes will take on Betis, Alavés, Cádiz, Elche and Sevilla in La Liga.
The Copa del Rey run
During the month of January Barça got their 2020/21 Copa del Rey campaign under way. The first test came against lower league local opposition in the form of Cornellà who put up brave resistance before the blaugranes claimed victory in extra time. In the next round Rayo Vallecano were beaten in the Estadio Vallecas and on Wednesday Barça face Granada in the quarter finals of the competition.
If Barça can get past Diego Martínez's team then they will go into the draw on Friday for the semi finals which will be played over two legs, the first of which will be played this month with the second in March.
The Champions League returns to the fore
February will also see the return of the Champions League with a mouth watering tie against the French league champions Paris Saint-Germain. The first leg of the last 16 tie will take place at Camp Nou on 16 February at 9.00pm CET; a date for your diaries.
