Champions League rivals: Dynamo Kíev

The Ukrainian team will cross paths with Barça again in the Champions League after doing so for the last time in 2009

Dynamo Kiev, Barça's third opponent in the Champions League 2020/21, will cross paths with the Catalans almost 11 years after the last time. They're coached by Mircea Lucescu, who has been at the helm for several teams, including 12 years at Shakhtar Donetsk. This year, the Ukrainian side have had to qualify via the preliminary stages in order to get to the group stage.

SQUAD

The most well-known face of the Ukrainian team is coach Mircea Lucescu, who has been with the team since this summer. Gerson Rodrigues, Carlos de Pena are ones to watch.

HISTORY

Surely the golden age in the history of Dynamo Kiev began in the late 50s. The 1954 Soviet Cup was their first title, and from then on the club rose to greatness, winning the league in 1960 and a year later being proclaimed champion of the Soviet League. It was the start of what has now become a club with 28 league title wins, 21 Cups, 12 Super Cups and two European Cup Winners' Cups.

PRECEDENTS

FC Barcelona have faced the Ukrainian team in five European qualifiers. The last time was in the group stage of the 2009/10 Champions League, Barça winning both matches, with Leo Messi scoring in each.

The two teams also met in the quarterfinals of the 1990/91 Cup Winners' Cup, in the semifinals of the 1991/92 European Cup, the prelude to Barça's first ever triumph in the competition thanks to Koeman's free kick, and in the Champions League in 1993/94 and 1997/98.
