International week as it happened

World Cup qualifiers, UEFA Nations League action and more ... Here's how our players fared for their countries

The international calendar takes precedence over the next week and we follow the FC Barcelona players with their national teams right here (all times CEST):

Wednesday 14 October

10.45pm: International commitments for October come to an end. These are the results of the UEFA Nations League matches that took place on Wednesday and which had Barça players in action:

  • Croatia 1 - France 2. Antoine Griezmann, with 83 minutes played, paved the way for the victory with a magnificent goal, and for his part, Lenglet played the full 90 minutes at the Stadion Maksimir (Zagreb).
  • England 0 - Denmark 1. Braithwaite played for 73 minutes of the Danish team's win at Wembley.
  • Italy 1 - Netherlands 1. Frenkie de Jong played in the Netherlands midfield for the entire 90 minutes of the 1-1 draw against the Azzurri in Bergamo.
  • Poland 3 - Bosnia and Herzegovina 0. Pjanić, replaced in the 33rd minute, saw his team lose to Poland in Wroclaw.

9:20 pm: Antoine Griezmann opened the scoring in the Croatia v France match with a superb goal. 

7.45pm: The starting XIs for the games that begin at 8.45pm have been confirmed. For Holland, De Jong is a starter, as is Pjanic for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Braithwaite for Denmark and Lenglet and Griezmann for France. Therefore, of all the matches with Barça representation, only Trincão starts from the bench.

9.00am: There are no fewer than five different UEFA Nations League games being played today that could feature FC Barcelona players:

PORTUGAL (Trincão) v SWEDEN (8:45pm CEST). UEFA Nations League
CROATIA v FRANCE (Lenglet and Griezmann) (8:45pm CEST). UEFA Nations League
ITALY v HOLLAND (De Jong) (8:45pm CEST). UEFA Nations League
POLAND v BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA (Pjanic) (8:45pm CEST). UEFA Nations League

04.00am. Philippe Coutinho featured in an eventuful game in Lima. Brazil went behind to Peru on two occasions, but eventually won 4-2, with Neymar Jr scoring a hat-trick (two goals from the penalty spot) to become his country's second highest goalscorer of all time. The final goal came right at the very end after Peru had had two men sent off.

01.00am: Ronald Araujo played all 90 minutes for Uruguay, but the charruas suffered heavy defeat to Ecuador in Quito. Two late Luis Suárez penalities didn't change anything and the home side won 4-2.

Tuesday 13 October

11.58pm: Leo Messi played all 90 minutes as Argentina survived an early scare at altitude in La Paz to come from behind and defeat Bolívia 2-1.

10.35pm: Ansu Fati played for 58 minutes of Spain's UEFA Nations League match at the Kiev Olympic Stadium. The game saw the first defeat for Luis Enrique's team (1-0) in this tournament, a game in which neither Sergio Busquets nor Sergi Roberto played a single minute.

10.00pm: Leo Messi starts for Argentina against Bolivia whilst Araujo also starts in the Ecuador v Uruguay match. 

8.30pm: Riqui Puig played 45 minutes and Pedri came on in the second half, in the Spanish U21 team's win against Kazakhstan (3-0).

7.50pm: Ansu Fati is the only Barça starter in the Spain v Ukraine UEFA Nations League game. Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto are substitutes.

6.10pm: Riqui Puig starts for the Spanish U21 team, while Iñaki Peña and Pedri are substitutes. If Spain U21 win, they will qualify for the next European Championship for that age group.

9.40am: Yesterday was a quiet day for the Barça players but today is quite the contrary, with several of our players in action both in Europe and South America.

Monday 12 October

9.45am: This Monday there are no matches between any of the international teams that has Barça representation. The last round of international matches will be played between this Tuesday and Thursday, with Ronald Koeman's available players returning to training this Monday at 5.30pm.

Sunday, 11 October

10:45 pm: Griezmann played 90 minutes in the goalless draw between Portugal and France. Trincáo was substituted on 89' and Lenglet didn't play. Braithwaite played 87 minutes in Denmark's 0-3 win against Iceland.

8.00pm: Griezmann, with France, and Trincão, with Portugal, start in the Portugal v France fixture, whilst Lenglet begins the game from the bench. For his part, Braithwaite is a starter in Iceland v Denmark.

7.58pm: The match between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands ended with a 0-0 draw. Pjanić, substituted in the 75th minute, and De Jong, on the field for the whole match, both started their UEFA Nations League game played in Zenica. 

10.00am: This Sunday there will be three international matches with culé representation, two of them with a possible confrontation between team-mates. In Bosnia-Herzegovina v Holland, Pjanic faces De Jong (6:00pm) and in France v Portugal (8:45pm) Griezmann and Lenglet could face Trincão. Braithwaite's Denmark will also play Iceland, and all three are Nations League matches.

Saturday 10 October

10.40pm: Ansu Fati plays 57 minutes and Sergio Busquets plays the full 90 as Spain stay top of their Nations League with a 1-0 defeat of Switzerland, the only goal of the game coming from Oyarzabal. 

7.30pm: Ansu Fati and Sergio Busquets are both named in Luis Enrique's starting XI for Spain's game with Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League. 

4.50pm: Montenegro, with Barça B goalkeeper Carevic watching from the bench have beaten Azerbaijan 2-0 to make it three wins out of three in the UEFA Nations League.

9.00am: There are two games with potential Barça interest today:
SPAIN (Busquets and Ansu Fati) v Switzerland  - 8:45pm, UEFA Nations League
MONTENEGRO (Carevic) v Lithuania - 3pm, UEFA Nations League

5.00am: Coutinho scored one of Brazil's five goals in a rout of Bolivia to get their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a fantastic start. The Barça player was on for 77 minutes and his was the fifth of the goals on a wonderful night for La Canarinha in Sao Paulo.

Friday 9 October

4.00pm: This Friday, it's Philippe Coutinho's turn to shine as his Brazil side will play the 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Bolívia. The match will take place in Sao Paulo at 2.30 am (CET).

7.00am: Messi is Argentina's main man, scoring a 13th minute penalty against Ecuador that gives his country their first win in qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. Ronald Araujo is an unused substitute for Uruguay in their 2-1 victory over Chile. After the game he said: "It has been a hard year because of what we're going through. To come and play for my country and bring joy to the people with a win, aside from the result, is a chance to take our minds of things. I want all Argentinains to stay strong."

Thursday 7 October

11.30pm: Pjanic plays all 120 minutes, plus a penalty shootout, for Bosnia-Herzegovina against Northern Ireland. Although he scored the first penalty, his country would lose 3-4 and miss out on the European Championships.

9.00pm: Riqui Puig plays 60 minutes and Pedri 30 minutes, in a win for the Spain Under-21s against the Faroe Islands. Iñaki Peña is an unused substitute.

8.10pm: Pjanic starts for Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. Northern Ireland, in a Euro 2021 qualifier.

6.15pm: Riqui Puig starts for the Spain Under-21s. Iñaki Peña and Pedri are on the bench.

9.00am: There are two games to look out for today with Barça involvement: 

  • 6.45pm (Iñaki Peña, Riqui Puig and Pedri): Faroe Islands v Spain. Euro qualification.
  • 8.45pm (Pjanic): Bosnia Herzegovina v Northern Ireland. Nations Cup

Wednesday 7 October

11.00pm: Spain, with Sergio Busquets playing 62 minutes and Sergi Roberto the whole match, have drawn 0-0 in tonight's friendly with Trincão's Portugal. Barça's new signing played 79 minutes.

Lenglet played the full 90 minutes and Griezmann came on in the 59th minute as France thrashed Ukraine 7-1, the latter scoring the final goal of the night in the 89th minute.

Frank de Boer, who has replaced another former Barça man Ronald Koeman as manager of Holland, lost his first game in charge, 1-0 in a friendly at home to Mexico. Frenkie de Jong didn't play.

8:20pm: In 25 minutes the three games with Barça representation get under way. Sergio, Sergi Roberto and Trincao are starters in the Portugal v Spain tie. Lenglet also starts for France against Ukraine, while De Jong doesn't start for Holland against Mexico.

8.00pm: Braithwaite played 90 minutes and assisted the third goal in Denmark's 4-0 friendly victory against the Faroe Islands. Carevic didn't play in Montenegro's 1-1 draw against Latvia.

2.00pm: International fixtures kick off this Wednesday with up to nine Barça players possibly involved: 

  • 6.00pm (Carevic): Montenegro-Latvia. Friendly.
  • 6.00pm (Braithwaite): Denmark-Faroe Isles. Friendly.
  • 8.45pm (Trincao, Sergio, Sergi Roberto and Ansu Fati): Portugal-Spain. Friendly.
  • 8.45pm (Lenglet y Griezmann): France-Ukraine. Friendly.
  • 8.45pm (De Jong): Netherlands-Mexico. Friendly.
