4 | Champions Leagues won by Messi

4 | Champions Leagues won by Messi

With just four days to go until Barça v Napoli, we take a look at the four times the Argentine has helped Barça to lift the trophy

The Champions League is about to return with just four days to go until the second leg of the last 16 tie between Barça and Napoli. Four days and during his outstanding career Leo Messi has won the Champions League no less than four times with FC Barcelona. On Saturday the Argentine will try to help Barça move a step closer to a 6th win in the competition for the Club and a fifth for Messi.

The Barça number 10, along with Andrés Iniesta and Xavi Hernández, is the Barça player with most Champions League winners' medals in his collection. All three players were part of the squads that won in 2006 in Paris, 2009 in Rome, 2011 at Wembley and 2015 in Berlin. Gerard Piqué has won the competition four times also but one of his successes came with Manchester United in 2008.

Messi, it goes without saying, has been vital in Barça's Champions League story. In Rome and at Wembley in the finals against Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, Messi found the net on each occasion. In Berlin against Juventus, Messi's effort set up a strike for his team mate Luis Suárez.

In August the challenge for the Argentina captain is to claim his fifth Champions League title and his 35th as a Barça player, more than any other player in the Club's history. If he can add to the 29 goals that he has scored in various finals during his Barça career then Leo Messi might just do it.
