FC Barcelona Copa del Rey debuts

In the last few seasons, the blaugranes first experience in the competition has been a positive one as they face their first one off tie since the 2004/05 season

In the last few seasons the Copa del Rey has been one of Barça's favourite competitions and ahead of the blaugranes' debut in the 2019/20 edition in their last 32 clash away from home against Segunda B side Ibiza, we take a look at some of the Club's debut in the Spanish cup competition in recent years:

2018-2019: Barça begin their campaign in León, winning 1-0 at Cultural Leonesa thanks to a goal from Lenglet.

2017-2018: Paco Alcácer scores the first goal for Barça in the Copa del Rey in a 3-0 win away at Real Murcia.

2016-2017: Carles Aleñá nets first for Barça but the blaugranes are held 1-1 away from home at Hércules.

2015-2016: The competition begins with a draw again for Barça, this time 0-0 at Villanovense.

2014-2015: Ivan Rakitic pens Barça's account in a comfortable 4-0 win away at Huesca.

One off ties

This season the format of the Copa del Rey has been modified with now only the semi-finals of the competition taking place over two legs. We have to go back to the 2004/05 season to find the last time that Barça faced a do-or-die clash in the cup when they were knocked out by lower league neighbours Gramanet following a 1-0 extra time defeat in the last 64. The result was a reverse of the previous season's competition when a goal from Ronaldinho had given Barça a 1-0 against the same opponents.
