Afellay loaned to Olympiakos

FC Barcelona and Olympiakos FC have reached an agreement for Ibrahim Afellay to be loaned to the Greek club for the 2014-15 season

Ibrahim Afellay, who was excused training in Barcelona on Saturday, will play the forthcoming season at Olympiakos after an agreement was reached today for the loan of the Dutchman to the side from Piraeus.

35 games with first team

Afellay has been at FCB since 2010, and has played 35 games for the first team since then. In his first season, he had some especially memorable performances in the semi-finals of the Spanish Cup and the Champions League against Almeria and Real Madrid, respectively.

But on September 22, 2011, he suffered a serious injury that side-lined him until April 2012. He played five games towards the end of the season, and in the summer was loaned out to Schalke 04 in Germany, where despite a good start, he fell victim once again to an injury.

Last season he rejoined the Barça first team, but only played in two official matches, against Malaga in La Liga and Levante in the cup. This is the last season of Afellay's contract at Barça.
