Sydney Joy Schertenleib (Zurich, 30/01/2007) arrived at Barça in summer 2024 to join the development side, but after breaking through into the first team, she became part of the first team squad in summer 2025.
Having come through the system at the Swiss clubs FC Wädenswil, FC Zurich and Grasshoppers, she garnered lots of attention among many clubs due to her rapid rise, but it was FC Barcelona who got her to put pen to paper. She joined just aged 16 years old, but had already played for the national side by then, as well as having won a league title with FC Zurich in 2023.
Her debut for the blaugrana first team came on 2 November in a 4-0 defeat of Eibar. The first few months saw her play for both Barça Atlètic and the first team, but Pere Romeu began to use her much more often as the season went on, culminating in 23 appearances across all competitions by the end of the season, with three goals and moments of true footballing talent.
The season ended with a Liga F and Copa de la Reina trophy, before she helped her host country to the quarterfinals of the European Championships. After just one season in blaugrana, she is part of the first team squad.
Sydney Schertenleib is a physically imposing and very powerful player, yet she is highly skilful, capable of making late runs into the box and has a real eye for goal. She has all the tools to become one of the best.
