2. Paredes

Born on 4 July 1991 in Legazpi, Guizpúzcoa in Spain, Irene Paredes started her career with her home town club before moving on Sociedad Deportiva Urola and then Deportivo Zarautz before a spell at Real Sociedad.

Paredes made her debut in the league for la Real at the age of 17 before moving to Athletic Club in 2011. She was part of their league winning squad in 2016 after which she moved to France and Paris Saint-Germain where she played until joining FC Barcelona in 2021.

Since her arrival at Barça, Paredes has shown herself to be a world class defender. The centre back played an important role in team's success in the Champions League in 2023 and 2024, the most recent win in the competition sealing a historic season in which Paredes also helped the blaugranes to league, Copa de la Reina and Spanish Super Cup titles. 

Irene Paredes is one of the best defenders in the world and is captain of the Spanish national team. The defender played every game in Spain's successful 2023 World Cup winning campaign in Australia and New Zealand and also helped Spain to fourth place in the football tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
