Semedo is the typical Barça full back: fast, accurate and buzzing with potential
Nélson Cabral Semedo, born 16 November 1993, joined Benfica in 2012 from Sintrense. He went back on loan to his former club for a year before becoming a full time member of the Eagles’ reserves. He performed brilliantly for the second team, and made his first team debut in the 2015 Portuguese Super Cup against Sporting Lisbon.
In two seasons with the first team, Semedo confirmed his early promise, making 63 appearances, including eleven in the Champions League. At Portugal’s most successful club he won two leagues, one cup, one league cup and one super cup.
On 14 July 2017 he was presented as a new FC Barcelona player. In his first season with Barça, Semedo made 35 official appearances. Hedebuted on 16 August 2016 in El Clásico, precisely the return leg of the Spanish Super Cup.
He made his full international debut for Portugal on 11 October 2015 and was in the squad that finished third at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia, playing in two of his country’s games.
