A never before seen comeback

A never before seen comeback

For the first time in Club history, Barça come from behind to win away from home with a man down

The win against Osasuna in El Sadar was a vital one and a historic one for FC Barcelona. The blaugranes had never before come from behind to win in such circumstances, a man down and a goal down at half time away from home.

This feat is a rare one. The last time it had happened in La Liga was back in January of 2009 when Sevilla came back from 1-0 down against Deportivo La Coruña to win 3-1 with 10 men.

First comeback of the season

For the first time this season the blaugranes were able to come from behind to win. Up until then Xavi's team had not been able to take victory in the games in which they had fallen behind, against Bayern and Inter in the Champions League and against Real Madrid in La Liga.

When Barça manage to score first, it means only one thing. The blaugranes are the side who have scored first in a game on most occasions and have not dropped points when they have gone ahead in a game. In fact, every time they have scored the first goal, they have gone on to win.

Comebacks in the Xavi era

Since Xavi Hernández took over as coach Barça have come back from behind to win in four games. In February 2022 Yannick Carrasco put Atlético Madrid ahead in a game that the blaugranes would go on to win 4-2. A month later goals from Ferran and Memphis saw a 2-1 comeback win at Elche and in Mallorca in April of this year a late, late winner from Luuk de Jong was the culmination of a 3-2 comeback win in the Balearic Islands.

The latest against Osasuna was unique due to the circumstances: away from home and down to 10 men. The three points mean that Barça will now sit atop of La Liga until the New Year.

La darrera contra l’Osasuna és la més complicada per les circumstàncies en què es van produir: amb un home menys i fora de casa. A més,  la victòria va donar tres punts d’or que serveixen per mantenir el liderat de La Lliga
