Ronald Koeman: 'Nothing is impossible'

Barça coach discusses tomorrow's huge challenge in Paris and also welcomes the arrival of Joan Laporta as the new club president

Ronald Koeman has spoken to the press about Wednesday’s Champions League round of 16 second leg in Paris. Here are some of his standout comments

Expectations

“The comeback in the cup has given us a lot of confidence although we know this is a very different situation. But we can give it our best shot. A lot depends on how we start the game. We always create chances, the thing is that we need to take them.”

PSG are a candidate to win the Champions League. We need to play the perfect game and that’s what we’ll try to do.”

Tactics

“We have to go out strong, play our game and take our chances. It is important for us to feel at the end of the game that we did our absolute best.”

“We need to score goals away from home, which is never easy. But nothing is impossible. We know who we are and that we have to win. The team has been showing for some time how mentally strong they are and now they need to go out and show that again.”

“With 22 players we can use absolutely any system we like.”

Absentees

“We’ve not had all of our players available at any stage this season. We’ve been especially unlucky with centre backs. But the team is strong and the replacements have shown their worth and they will do so again tomorrow.”

“I spoke to Ronald Araujo and we’ve been monitoring him for the last fortnight. We have pushed him a bit to get fit in time but we don’t want to push him too much. He needs to train with the team and if all goes well he could be in the squad for Monday.”

Joan Laporta

“He has a history with Leo Messi and other players in the team and that’s a good thing. But it’s ultimately down to Leo to decide if he wants to stay here. We hope he does.”

“Laporta won by a large margin. It is important for the club to have a president like him who will work hard to improve things for the future.”

“I know Laporta well and he got off to a good start by giving a speech to the players and staff. There was a good vibe. We need to carry on the way we’ve started.”
