Samuel Okunowo came to Barcelona in the summer of 1997. He started out in the reserves and become part of the first team roster in 1998-99, helping the team to the Liga title under Luis Van Gaal.

After loan periods to Benfica and Badajoz, the Nigerian full back left the club for good in 2001.

Speedy full back who joined Barça from Shooting Stars in his native Ibadan, Samuel Okunowo was originally part of the B team, but coach Louis Van Gaal opted to use him in the senior squad. He played 21 competitive games for the team in the Liga winning centenary year of 1999. In 2001 he went on loan to Benfica and then to Badajoz, before leaving the club to go on a globetrotting carrer that took him to Greece, Romania, Albania, Ukraine, Iran, Maldives, England and finally, in 2012, back to Nigeria to turn out for the Sunshine Stars.
