Konrad de la Fuente and US make U20 World Cup quarters

Round of 16 brings end to the campaign for Todibo's France and Araujo's Uruguay

Only one of Barça’s three representatives at the U20 World Cup in Poland has progressed into the quarter finals. With France and the United States facing each other in the round of 16, a full house was never going to happen and a gripping game in Bydgoszcz saw the Americans bounce back from 2-1 down to clinch a 3-2 victory.

It means Barça defender Jean-Clair Todibo and the young French team are out of a competition that they won in 2013, while the US, featuring Barça’s U19 star Konrad de la Fuente, progress to the last eight. The Miami born winger was on for 63 minutes of the game, while Todibo watched from the bench.

The US go on to meet Ecuador in Gdyna this Saturday at 6.30pm CEST, precisely the side that put an end to the adventure for Barça’s other representative at the competition, Ronald Araujo of Uruguay. Although Araujo himself scored the goals that put Uruguay ahead after 11 minutes, the Ecuadorians responded with three goals and ended up winning the encounter.
