Barça Femení has earned yet another recognition for its outstanding work. At the Ballon d’Or gala, the team was named the Best Women's Team of 2026. The award returns to the Barça trophy cabinet after previously victories in 2024 and 2023.
The Barça women's team reclaim this prestigious distinction following an exceptional year, in which both the football and the trophies came in spades for Pere Romeu's team.
The award comes after an exceptional 2025/26 season. A campaign in which Pere Romeu’s Barça demonstrated its ambition and competitiveness in every competition, achieving and repeating a historic quadruple. The four trophies won confirmed the excellence of a team that never tires of making history. The League, Copa de la Reina, Spanish Super Cup, and UEFA Women's Champions League were all added to Barça Femení's list of honours. Once again, they have been chosen as the Best Team of the Year.
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta went up on stage in the London Palladium Theatre to receive the award on behalf of the team. "Thank you for giving us this award, it is a great honour. I would like to thank everyone involved with the team. I am thinking about our players, you are fantastic. The coach too, Pere Romeu, the directors, everyone involved in women's football," said Laporta before concluding with a reference to the Barça fans: "Thank you for always being behind Barça Femení."
Three times in four years
The 2026 award continues a successful run that had already been recognised in 2023, the first year the award for the Best Women’s Team of the Year was presented, and again in 2024. Although the prize did not come Barça’s way in 2025, when it was won by Arsenal, the blaugranes have returned to the top thanks to a year that combined results, quality football, and ambition.
As a result, the team has now won three awards in four years, further demonstrating the footballing dominance of a side that has become a benchmark in women's football around the world.
Four to remember
Last season was marked by Barça’s ability to compete at the highest level both domestically and on the European stage. The Barça women¡s team claimed their seventh consecutive League title in dominant fashion, lifted the Copa de la Reina and the Spanish Super Cup, and regained the European crown with a commanding 4-0 victory over OL Lyonnes in the UEFA Women's Champions League final, played in Oslo.
These four trophies reflect the talent, collective effort, and high standards of a team that has consistently risen to the occasion in the most decisive of moments. With a recognisable style of play and a winning mentality, Barça Femení continues to demonstrate year after year that they are capable of competing for every trophy and turning those ambitions into silverware. In 2026, the team was once again recognised as the Best Team of the Year, marking another milestone for a squad that has made excellence its hallmark.
Ballon d'Or with a blaugrana touch
Despite having ended her time at Barça, Alexia Putellas once again had a very special thought for the club when collecting her third Ballon d’Or, a recognition of her performances during last season, when she was still wearing the Blaugrana shirt.
In her speech, she highlighted the role of her teammates and thanked the club’s staff, directors, and supporters for their backing: "The fact that so many Barça players are here says a lot about the season we had. Any of you who are here deserved to be up here. We experienced incredible moments, overcame difficulties and injuries as a team, and it was an honour to be the captain of all of you." She also had words of appreciation for Pere Romeu and his coaching staff: "I’m very happy for your award. You deserve it for being a great coach and a great person."
In addition, she thanked the fans for their support after 14 years at the club: "Thank you for your love and support," and acknowledged the work of Joan Laporta and the club’s directors for "pushing forward during the times when it was needed most."
The player from Mollet del Vallès topped a list that featured a strong Barça presence among the ten best female footballers in the world. Ewa Pajor finished in second place, Patri Guijarro secured a spot in the top five, Caroline Graham Hansen ended in sixth place, and Clàudia Pina finished eighth.
