Enric Gensana

Enric Gensana

Gensana (Lleida, 1936 – Barcelona, 2005) was a midfielder and defender with a great physical presence

The man from Lleida who could play in midfield and at the back stood out for his professionalism and his air of calm on the field where he always gave his all. Gensana was excellent in the air, both in defence and in attack where he often bolstered Barça's options up front. He formed an excellent partnership with Joan Segarra with whom he had a great understanding.

He was considered the best blaugrana defender of the European Cup campaign in 1959/60 and 1960/61 and the best player in the Mini World Cup in 1957 where he was selected by the Venezuelan and Spanish press amongst the 58 players involved at the tournament. Unfortunately, he did not have the best of luck with injuries which prevented him from taking part in the World Cup in Chile in 1962. Another injury setback in the 1963/64 season saw him prematurely say goodbye to Barça.
