Center
Ante Tomic signed for Barça in 2012/13 and was born in Dubrovnik (Croatia) on February 17, 1987. He started playing basketball in his native city and then in 2004 signed for KK Zagreb. It was in the capital that he made his name, both at home and abroad. He won the Adriatic League Cup (2008), and was league MVP in 2009.
In 2008 he was a second round pick in the NBA Draft for Utah Jazz but his future was in the Liga Endesa. In January 2010 he moved to Real Madrid for three seasons but his contract was cancelled after two years, leading him to signing for FC Barcelona.
The Croatian centre has become a key player for Xavi Pascual and twice in the last few years (2012-13 and 2013-14) he has been named in the Euroleague best five.
He has played for his country, Croatia, at every level. In 2009, he won gold at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara (Italy) and as a full international appeared at the World Championship in Turkey and Eurobasket in Lithuania in 2011.
Tomic is 217cm tall and moves his feet well, and is especially mobile in the paint. The Croatian centre is strong at defensive rebounds and blocking, and despite his height, his coordination is excellent and he can do serious damage whenever he finds himself in possession close to the opposition’s basket.
