Albert Ferrer to coach Barça Legends

The former FCB and Chelsea defender replaces Jose Mari Bakero ahead of Saturday's fixture at the home of Manchester United

Albert Ferrer has been named the new coach of the Barça Legends, and will make his debut in this Saturday’s rematch against the Manchester United Legends at Old Trafford. The former FCB defender replaces José Mari Bakero, who is now working alongside Guillermo Amor as technical secretary of professional youth football at the club.

Famed for his role in the Dream Team between 1990 and 1998, ‘Chapi’ (as he is known locally) retired from playing duty at Chelsea in 2003

He gained his first managerial experience in 2010 at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and has also been in charge of Cordoba and Mallorca in Spain.

The game with the former Red Devils stars begins at 3.00pm GMT (4.00pm CET) and is the chance for the Catalans to avenge their 3-1 loss to the same side at the Camp Nou in June.

All proceeds will go towards construction of the new Paediatric Cancer Centre at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.

The Barça Legends have another fixture lined up on September 20 in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, against Hristo Stoichkov & Friends.
