Noddesbo celebrates winning gold at Rio 2016

Denmark have won the men’s Olympic handball competition for the first time ever, and that means that Barça Lassa’s Jesper Noddesbo and Lasse Anderson will be coming back from Rio de Janeiro with medals in their luggage (although the latter did not feature in the 28-26 defeat of France in the final).

That means silver medals for the defending Olympic champions, with Barça’s Sorhaindo and N’Guessan in their ranks, while Germany clinched bronze with a win against Poland.

Two more Barça Lassa sportsmen who have climbed podiums to receive medals today are basketball’s Juan Carlos Navarro and Víctor Claver, who helped Spain to bounce back from semi-final defeat to the USA and beat Australia in a bronze medal match that wasn’t decided until the final seconds.

Navarro (3) and Claver (6) both performed well, but it was a former Barça man, Pau Gasol who stood head and shoulders above the rest in Brazil. The power forward who recently moved to the San Antonio Spurs provided 30 points and 11 rebounds to ensure another medal to put alongside the silver ones he took home from Beijing and London.
