PASADENA, California — Munir El Haddadi and Arthur Melo each found the net in the first half to help lead Barça to a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Tottenham Hotspur in its opening game of the International Champions Cup at the Rose Bowl on Saturday night.

The win gives Barça a triumphant start to the pre-season in the United States for the second summer in a row, and the team will move on to Dallas this Sunday before facing AS Roma on Tuesday at AT&T stadium.

Barça got off to a hot start against Tottenham, and took a 2–0 lead into the intermission. Munir opened the scoring on 15 minutes and Arthur — the first of Barça’s three summer signings thus far — doubled Barça’s lead just shy of the half hour mark. Rafinha assisted both goals.

Both Arthur and Clément Lenglet — who was Barça’s second signing this summer — started the game.

But the Spurs came out with more pressure in the second half and pulled back both goals within a three-minute span to tie the game at 2–2. Son Heung-Min found the net in the 73rd and Georges-Kévin N'Koudou notched the equalizer in the 75th, setting up a penalty shootout.

Barça made all five kicks in the shootout, while Tottenham missed its third.

Barça's fifth and game-winner came when Malcom — who was unveiled on this very tour three days ago at Nike World Headquarters in Portland, Oregon — stepped up to the spot and calmly buried his shot into the lower right corner, freezing the Tottenham goalkeeper, and sealing the victory.
