FC Barcelona will make its longest road trip in La Liga this season, when it heads south to the Canary Islands for a midweek date with UD Las Palmas. Kickoff at the Estadio de Gran Canaria is at 9.00pm CET. Barça, perched out in first place, holds a seven point lead in the standings just days ahead of a weekend clash with second-place Atlético Madrid. But the Catalans must first fend off 18th place Las Palmas, which finds itself in a must-win situation as it fights to climb out of the relegation zone.

Statistically Speaking

Barça is unbeaten in its last six La Liga matches at Las Palmas, including 4 wins and 2 draws . . . Overall, Barça is also undefeated in its last 16 road games in La Liga (13 wins and 3 draws), including 9 shutouts . . . The last time Barça had a longer unbeaten streak away from home in La Liga was an 18-game run that was snapped in January 2013 . . . Leo Messi’s two goals in Barça’s 6–1 win over Girona last weekend set a new record, making him the only player in La Liga history to find the net against 36 different First Division teams.

Nevertheless, while Messi has previously scored against Las Palmas at Camp Nou, the Argentinian has never scored an away goal at Las Palmas, making it the only team Messi has faced at least twice on the road without a scoring a goal . . . Messi, who leads La Liga in both goals (22) and assists (12), is also now just a pair of strikes shy of first place in the race for the Golden Shoe . . . Luis Suárez, for his part, scored a hat trick against Girona, and now has 20 on the season, second best in La Liga.

DYNAMIC DUO: Messi and Suárez form Europe's top strike partnership this year!

For Las Palmas, Pedro Bigas is its only current player who has scored a league goal against Barça, which came late last season . . . Barça is riding a club-record 32-game unbeaten streak — which stretches back to the end of last season — and a win or a draw at Las Palmas would bring the Catalans one step closer to the all-time La Liga undefeated streak of 38 games, which was set by Real Sociedad almost 40 years ago.

A NEW RECORD! Barça goes 32 games unbeaten in La Liga!

Barça beat Las Palmas, 3–0, at Camp Nou back on October 1, 2017 . . . That date will forever go down in history as the day of Catalonia’s independence referendum, when Barça played behind closed doors to bring worldwide attention to the political situation in Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia.
