FC Barcelona face their fourth game of the group stage of this season’s Champions League on Tuesday when they take on Olympiacos in Athens (8.45pm CET). The Greek side need a victory if they are to have any hope of making the knock out stages and the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium will be a cauldron of noise for a game that also sees a return to the city for Ernesto Valverde.

The Barça coach spend three seasons as Olympiacos boss in two separate spells in which he won three Greek League titles and two domestic cups. In his pre-game press appearance Valverde admitted: “It’s emotional to be back in Athens for what it means to me. They were three wonderful years where I felt respected by everyone, even my opponents and I am looking forward to a wonderful atmosphere.”

“The fans at Olympiacos put a lot of pressure on you. They come to take part in a footballing festival and they inject a lot of passion in general and you can sense that from the start. Even if they organise a great reception for me, they won’t forget to get behind their side.”

The Barça coach played down comparisons with the first game between the two clubs earlier this month at Camp Nou. “In Barcelona they were more defensive and now they will try to get a positive result. With the fans behind them they will be stronger and they will take advantage of the chance they have,” concluded Valverde.

In the same press conference Gerard Deulofeu also made an appearance.  Some of his words below:
