FC Barcelona beat Girona (6-1) thanks to a hat-trick from Luis Suárez, a double from Lionel Messi and a first La Liga goal from Philippe Coutinho. Ernesto Valverde was very satisfied at his post-match press conference, especially with the team's ability to overcome pressure from their opponents. The Barça coach explained that Girona “had a very high line of pressure, but that gave us space to progress.” Valverde was pleased to have decided the match before the break, as in his opinion "we have been able to rest players for a tough week ahead."

He also emphasised the importance of equalising Portu’s goal almost immediately, saying “They took advantage of the spaces we left." Asked about Coutinho and Dembélé, Valverde said that "they bring a lot of offensive resources, as well as working in defence when we demand."

A major week in the season

This coming week sees matches against Las Palmas and Atlético Madrid. "We enter into the decisive phase of the championship where the points count for a lot, and we want to keep our rivals at a distance,” the coach noted.
