“Today’s game was an important one; the victory has a double boost as it gives us confidence ahead of a game like the Clásico. It’s always good to come into it strengthened,” explained Ernesto Valverde following the 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruña at Camp Nou. The winning margin could have been greater said the coach given the amount of times his side hit the woodwork: “We are a team who attack a lot. It’s a statistic that speaks volumes about us although we would have liked some of those shots to have gone in.”

Asked about a certain Brazilian midfielder who scored twice against Depor, Valverde replied: “Paulinho is a player who has goals in him, he always gets into the box. His strength is arriving from midfield and today he has found the net again.”

The Barça coach also touched on the injury to Paco Alcácer after the striker was forced off in the first half at Camp Nou. “We have lost another player for the Clásico but we hope the Christmas break will allow him to get fit and help us in January,” revealed Valverde.
