Leo Messi during training last season with Luis Suárez | MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

Leo Messi was the big inclusion on the list of players set to travel to the St. George’s Park training camp in the United Kingdom on Monday.

The Argentine has cut his holidays short by a week to prepare for the season ahead, despite having permission to remain on vacation until 1 August after competing in the Copa America.

It is not the first time that Messi has done this. In fact, just last year he did exactly the same thing, returning to training one week before he was scheduled to come back as he wanted to get ready for the European and Spanish Super Cup matches against Sevilla and Athletic Club respectively.

Messi’s commitment has been made clear by this decision. The squad will travel to St. George’s Park on Monday and will remain there until Saturday 30 July, the day in which they will fly to Dublin to take on Celtic in the International Champions Cup.

Medical examinations on 3 August

The mercurial no.10 will start pre-season training on Monday at the English FA’s facilities and, once he returns to Barcelona, he will undergo routine medical examinations on 3 August. The same applies for Arda Turan. The international players who return from their vacations on 1 August will also undergo medicals on 3 August.
