Denis Suárez: We must quickly pick ourselves up

Busquets, Cillessen, Iniesta and Luis Enrique also give their thoughts on the surprise defeat at the hands of Alavés

FC Barcelona fell to defeat in Week 3 of La Liga against Alavés (1-2), as Deyverson and Ibai Gomez handed the newly-promoted side a surprise win at Camp Nou.

Denis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, Jasper Cillessen, Andres Iniesta and Luis Enrique spoke to the press immediately after the game, giving their thoughts on a disappointing night.

Denis Suárez

Speaking of the international break, the midfielder said that “it always has a bit of an effect, but we do not want to make excuses”.

“We must pick ourselves up quickly as we have an important game (against Celtic in the Champions League) on Tuesday.”

Sergio Busquets

“Many things were missing, it was a very tough game and a much deserved win for Alavés.”

“The international break cannot be an excuse. The manager decides who plays and there are many matches ahead.”

Andrés Iniesta

“Many things can be analysed after a match, things did not go well today. Alaves did a nice job and made a great effort.”

“We will take it game by game. When there is a defeat, things must be corrected and improved ahead of the next game, and keep on going.”

Jasper Cillessen

“At the moment, things have not started well as we have lost. We will try to improve for Tuesday.”

“I felt very comfortable because, both at Ajax and the Dutch national team, we play in a similar way to Barça.”

Luis Enrique

“We were not precise in what we did, but this allows us to value what we have done previously. To win is always difficult. We have always been conscious of how tough it is to win, but this helps us to understand how difficult it is.”

“Alavés were very serious, very well organized, and practically with just three chances scored two goals. We did things very well. Also, they played with a system they had not used before, a very deep 5-4-1.”

“We improved in the second half, and in the end we had chances to go ahead but we have to everything: we lacked fluidity, clarity and precision in attack and were fragile in defence.”

Luis Enrique made several changes to the lineup, of which he said: "We tried to include those who were fresher, most of the rotations were due to the circumstances surrounding us. The players tried and gave it their best.”
