A 2-1 defeat away at Sevilla on 3 October came just a week after a knee injury for Leo Messi, which would keep the Argentine out of action for a month. Barça’s reaction to this adversity? – to go on a record breaking unbeaten 39 game unbeaten run that would last some six months.

The last month of 2015 brought the opportunity to claim more silverware. The league and Champions League campaigns took a back seat for once as Barça travelled to Japan in search of the third FIFA Club World Cup. February

By the time Unai Emery’s Sevilla side came to Camp Nou in February in the league, Barça had gone 33 games since their last defeat, which had come against the Andalusians in the Sánchez Pizjuán back in October. Once again Luis Enrique’s side fell behind, Vitolo giving Sevilla the lead in the first half.  Nevertheless, the team’s ability to bounce back came to the fore with Messi and Piqué helping to extend the unbeaten run to 34 matches.

March

Come the beginning of March, Barça enjoyed an eight point lead at the top of the table.  In week 28 they faced a testing trip in less than ideal conditions to take on high flying Eibar in Ipurua. What could have been a potential banana skin turned into another impressive performance despite the inclement weather, a 4-0 win keeping them on track for the league title.

April

April confirmed its reputation as the cruelest month with Luis Enrique’s side knocked out of the Champions League and now level on points with Atlético and just one point ahead of Real Madrid in the league after a run of four defeats in five matches. Nevertheless, the team knew that if they were to win their remaining matches in the league then they would be champions. An inspired victory against Deportivo kick started a five game winning run which saw la Liga theirs once again.
