Barça B were defeated in the dying moments against Lugo. The blaugranas took the lead through Aleñá after an impressive solo move. Gerard López’s side weren’t able to maintain their lead as the visiting team drew level in the last minute of the first half. The second 45 saw Lugo take the initiative and they scored the winner in the 90th minute despite the home team also having chances.

The match started excellently with lots of goal scoring chances for both teams. Vitinho went close first with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Jose Arnaiz also tried his luck but the opposition keeper made a good save. Lugo punished any loss of possession to threaten especially through Polaco. The player had two clear chances in the space of a minute but wasn’t able to find the back of the net.

Barça B were comfortable at the Miniestadi and Aleñá had Gerard López side’s best chance of the game so far. The midfielder’s effort was eventually scrambled away by the opposition’s defence. The match was being played at a frenetic pace right up until the blaugranas took the lead through Aleñá’s fantastic move. A shot from the edge of the area after the ball went in off the post in the 31st minute.

However, soon after Lugo made it 1-1 from a cross from the right side of the pitch which was finished well by Ayeez past Ezkieta in the final seconds of the first half.

Goal scored in the final moments

The first minutes of the second half saw Lugo continue where they ended the first half. However, Barça B also went in search of their second of the night. Jorge Cuenca made his debut when replacing Martinez, who had to come off with an injury. There was little to choose between the two as both sides looked to take the lead.

Lugo looked more threatening as the match wore on and in the end the pressure paid off when Iriome headed in from a corner kick. The 2-1 defeat means Barça B are thirteenth in the table with eight points. Gerard López’s next match is against Gimnàstic de Tarragona at 8.30pm CET on Sunday 1 October.
