CE Sabadell v Barça B: Dominant performance rewarded by late goal (1-1)

The blaugranas salvaged a point in stoppage time thanks to a Perea goal following a dominant performance against a stubborn Sabadell; the point leaves them two points clear at the top of the table

Barça B earned a point at the Nova Creu Alta ground in stoppage time of a game in which the blaugranas dominated Sabadell. A Marlon own goal put the home side ahead early on and Barça B went on the attack until they finally got their reward in extra time thanks to a Perea goal. With this point, the Catalans open a two-point gap over second-placed Alcoyano as their rivals lost to Lleida.

The score at half-time didn’t do justice to Barça’s attacking and dominant performance in the first 45 minutes. Perea hit the post early on and this set the tone for the rest of the half. Fali and Marc Cardona also went agonisingly close but in the 12th minute an unfortunate Marlon own goal put the home side ahead against the run of play.

Despite the setback Barça B kept Jokin Ezkieta busy throughout the match despite Sabadell’s defensive formation. Marc Cardona and Gumbau almost found a way through the massed ranks but the striker miscued his shot and the midfielder hit the side netting when they were presented with clear opportunities.

Rewarded in the end

At the start of the second half the dynamic remained unchanged. Barça B were attacking and Sabadell were defending. Alfaro and Cardona both tried it from long distance without any luck. Unfortunately, Fali was taken away in an ambulance due to a blow to the head and he was replaced by Mboula. Both sides made substitutions and Sabadell went down to ten men following Juanjo Ciércoles’ sending off. Gerard López went for broke with another offensive substitution as Dani Romera replaced Marlon.

Barça B’s pressure on the opposition became ever more intense and as the match neared its end they got closer to scoring the equaliser. The goal finally arrived thanks to an Alberto Perea shot in stoppage time which beat Ezkieta and rewarded Barça B for a determined and impressive performance. The blaugranas stay top of the table, now with a two-point lead, and their next fixture is against Llagostera at the Miniestadi next Saturday at 6.00pm CET.
