That's the end of the road. Barça's title hopes are over after losing the fifth and decisive semi-final match against Igualada. In a fiercely contested encounter in Blanes, the visitors proved more clinical in the key moments, leaving the blaugranes just short of a place in the OK Liga final.
Great atmosphere
Everything was in place for a day of maximum intensity and top-level roller hockey, with 1,367 spectators creating a big-match atmosphere. From the opening whistle, backed by a deafening crowd, the game lived up to expectations. Both teams raised the defensive intensity, prompting the referees to begin penalising the physical play with a succession of fouls. Despite the interruptions and the noise, Barça were the side finding gaps in the opposition defence, particularly through Marc Grau.
The balance between the two teams was evident, just as it had been throughout the entire series, and it always felt as though a single detail could prove decisive. The intensity was impossible to maintain for the full 50 minutes and, although it gradually eased, both sides remained on high alert. Chances came at both ends, but Sergi Fernández and Arnau Martínez responded with important saves, while the foul count continued to rise.
Heavy blow
So much so that, in an unusual situation, Barça committed their tenth foul before the break. However, Biel Llanes failed to convert the direct free hit against Sergi Fernández. And just when it looked as though the teams would go into half-time level, after efforts from Ferran Font and Marc Grau, Igualada found the breakthrough. Cardil finished at the far post after an individual run by Cañadillas, leaving Barça up against it at the interval.
25/26 over
The blaugranes were handed a golden chance to equalise in the opening minute of the second half when Igualada committed their tenth foul, but Alabart was unable to convert the direct free hit. Barça had to keep pushing. But it was not enough.
The visitors made the most of their numerical advantage after Font was shown a blue card, with Llanes firing home a powerful effort. Although Alabart reduced the deficit by converting the second direct free hit he was awarded, there was not enough time left to complete the comeback.
And so Barça's 2025/26 season comes to an end.
