Both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid have been dominant forces in domestic football over the years. There is evidence for this in terms of trophies – they have won most league titles between them – but there are other stats to illustrate it too. All-time goals scored is one such metric that has been hotly contested over time. The all-whites finished ahead last season, but Hansi Flick's side have hit the front once again this year.

6,579 goals

As it stands, the blaugranes have scored 6,579 goals in 94 LaLiga seasons. Real Madrid, on the other hand, have scored 6,561 to date. Hans-Dieter Flick's side managed to turn around a six goal deficit, as the tally at the end of last season was 6,483 for Real Madrid and 6,477 for FC Barcelona. This actually means that the blaugranes managed a 24-goal swing over the season to currently lead by 18 for all-time goals scored in the domestic competition.

Leading goalscorers in Europe

This has been possible of course due to a great year in front of goal for the blaugranes. FC Barcelona fans have been able to celebrate their team scoring in LaLiga 102 times, the highest in the domestic competition. Tremendous numbers, and let's not forget that they scored 174 goals in all competitions this season, making them the highest scoring team in Europe and the third highest scoring Barça side in history.

What came before

This is the ninth time that the lead for all-time goals scored has changed hands at the end of a season. The all-whites have finished the season ahead most often with 70 times compared to 24 times for the blaugranes. The all-whites also have had the biggest lead to date, being 139 goals ahead after the 89/90 season, while the FC Barcelona were furthest ahead after 53/54 season with 43 more goals scored.
