Jeison Murillo, new FC Barcelona player

FC Barcelona and Valencia CF have reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Jeison Murillo for the remainder of the 2018/19 season

FC Barcelona and Valencia CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jeison Murillo on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. The agreement includes a purchase option worth €25m.

The presentation ceremony is scheduled for next Thursday, December 27. Details forthcoming.

Colombian is an experienced defender

Born on May 27, 1992 in Cali, Colombia, Jeison Murillo was trained at Deportivo Cali in his hometown until he was 18 years old. The leap to European football was made when he signed for Udinese, although he played on loan for the first season at Granada’s academy.

After that campaign at the Andalusian club, Murillo went to Cádiz and Las Palmas, respectively, for the next two seasons. His good performances served to earn him a place in the first team at Granada during 2013/14, and he would stay there, also for two seasons. While at Granada, Murillo faced Barça three times.

Inter were one of several European clubs that had tracked Murillo during that period, and he would go on to sign for the Italian team, where he played two campaigns.

Murillo then arrived at Valencia on loan, but with a compulsory purchase option that they eventually exercised, the player therefore representing Los Che since the 2017/18 campaign.

He is a player with experience in international football, for the Colombian team. Murillo played in the Copa America in 2015 and 2016, and in the latter, his country finished in third place.
