Javier Mascherano: The victory strengthens us to continue fighting for titles

The FC Barcelona defender reaches 300 games for the Club during the 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach

The 4-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday night at the Camp Nou brought positive vibes back to the squad after a run of three winless games.

Javier Mascherano, who was making his 300th appearance for Barça, said after the game that he wants to “play more matches and win titles” and expressed his happiness at being at the club.

“It is always important to improve our performance, to gain confidence for the future and look to raise our level,” said the Argentinian.

Speaking of his central defensive partner Samuel Umtiti, Mascherano said: “He has shown a high pedigree during these months, we have a very good understanding”.

He went on to say that the team played a “very serious game” and the win “strengthens us to continue fighting for titles”.

Here is what some of Mascherano’s teammates said in the mixed zone after the game:

MARC CARDONA

“If you had told me a few months ago that I would be making my first team debut, I would not have believed you.”

“I am living these days like a normal week: training and working to the maximum.”

“To play at Camp Nou makes the dream even bigger.”

ANDRÉS INIESTA

"The most important thing is that the team remains confident in what we are doing and how he do it."

“Denis and I complement each other well. If we give the best accounts of ourselves, the team will be even better.”

“We will arrive at the last months (of the season) fighting for all the titles. I am sure of it.”

DENIS SUÁREZ

"We are very pleased, especially for the way we played, because we dominated the game.”

"Andrés and I can play together; when we do, we always feel good.”

"I have no preference for the draw. I am sure no team wants to face us.”

ALEIX VIDAL

“I have to keep working to keep having opportunities and then take advantage of them. I know what I am capable of.”

"I enjoy being here every day. It would be stupid to want to leave the best club in the world.”

“I have been giving 200% during these times. I respect the decisions of the coach and will continue to do so.”
