Leo Messi one win away from 400th for FC Barcelona

Victory against Leganés was number 399 for the Argentinian, and at Atlético Madrid the current Golden Shoe leader has the chance to complete a quadruple century

Leo Messi is chasing his 400th win in an FC Barcelona shirt, and his first chance to make that remarkable milestone comes this Sunday at the Vicente Calderón.

The Argentinian has accumulated 565 first team appearances since his debut in 2004, and the vast majority of those games have been wins. But winning comes naturally to the greatest player in the world. Those 399 victories have helped to win no fewer than 29 different major trophies, including four Champions Leagues, making him and Andrés Iniesta the most decorated players in club history.

And let’s not forget that Atlético Madrid is Messi’s ‘most favourite victim’. In all competitions, he has scored 26 goals against the ‘mattress-makers’, followed by Real Madrid (21) and Sevilla (21). And with eleven goals already in 2017, he is now not only number one goalscorer in LaLiga, but in all of Europe.

While Messi hunts for win number 400, his attacking partner Luis Suárez has just completed his first century. The 2-1 win at home to Leganés on Sunday was the Uruguayan’s 100th since joining from Liverpool, and that’s in just 130 games – in which he has scored a staggering 109 goals!
