The first match between two Barça players at the World Cup in Russia ended with a win for Ivan Rakitic and Croatia. The midfielder scored the third and definitive goal of the game in which both he and Leo Messi played 90 minutes.
With this victory, Croatia qualify for the last 16 of the competition, while Barça and Argentina’s No.10 will have to wait until the last group game to see if he’s able to join his club colleague for the next phase.
The first half ended goalless, although both teams had chances to score. In the second half, Croatia went ahead with a goal by Ante Rebić, who took advantage of a mistake by the keeper in the 53rd minute. The match opened up as a result and Croatia grabbed a second when Luca Modrić scored with a powerful shot. Rakitic rounded off the scoring with a late goal from inside the area (0-3). The Blaugrana midfielder joins Luis Suárez, Umtiti and Dembélé in the next stage of the competition.
