Philippe Coutinho has been officially presented as a new player of FC Barcelona. The Brazilian stepped onto the Camp Nou pitch dressed in Blaugrana and in front of 7,436 expectant fans who were there to welcome him. Up to 73 media organisations also witnessed the official presentation of Barça’s new midfielder.
Taking into account the injury on the anterior rectum of his right thigh, the Brazilian was careful when juggling the ball. He also participated in a rondo with eight young players from FCBEscola, and was handed the keys to a new Audi car. Coutinho commented: "I am very happy about the affection from the fans. It is a dream come true and I hope to answer all their expectations on the field." Before leaving the Camp Nou pitch, the player had photographs taken with several fans.
Coutinho signed his contract together with the president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, at the Camp Nou Presidential Anteroom. The Brazilian, who enjoyed his first day in the city on Sunday, signed as a new Barça player on Monday, linking him to the Club until 2023.
The Barça president explained: “All the Barça fans are very excited to have Philippe Coutinho here, and since last summer he’s tried to come and play with us. It has not been easy and it’s taken months of work, but he was really looking forward to coming here. His desire, effort and patience have been the determining factor." He added: "He is one of the stars of the world of football, known for his quality and professional career." Finally, Bartomeu also wanted to thank Liverpool, assuring that "we finally came to an understanding and were able to reach an agreement."
