The day that Valverde won and scored at the Camp Nou
'El Txingurri' was one of the scorers for Athletic Club in their win over Barça's Dream Team, 24 years ago
FC Barcelona have a game against Athletic Club at the Camp Nou this weekend, in one of LaLiga's most historic clashes.
It's also a special fixture for the coaches of both sides: Ernesto Valverde and José Ángel Ziganda. Both were successful strikers at Athletic during the 1990s.
One such Basque side were able to beat the famous Barça Dream Team 2-3 at the Camp Nou 24 years ago. Valverde -now in charge at FC Barcelona after having previously coached Athletic- was on the scoresheet that day.
"It's a goal that I remember very well, because it was the first that I scored at the Camp Nou," recalls Valverde of what was his only away win at the Camp Nou as a player or coach.
"It was also memorable because it was against goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta and I'd been called up for the Spanish national team the day before."
Ziganda also scored in the game. When the two coaches met earlier this season, FC Barcelona ran out 0-2 winners at San Mamés.
