This Sunday morning, FC Barcelona First Vice-President Rafael Yuste and Board of Directors member Miquel Camps welcomed seven representatives of the Penya Blaugrana de Basel, ahead of the friendly between Basel and Barça at 4.30pm CEST.

Yuste welcomed everyone in attendance, including the supporters’ club secretary, Albert Pereda. The First Vice-President highlighted the pilgrimage of Barça fans to Basel for the 1979 European Cup Winners’ Cup final, when Barça won their first major European trophy. Among other topics, they also discussed the fact that FC Basel and Barça share the same colours.

A group photo was then taken and those attending were presented with a bag of merchandise.

The Penya Blaugrana de Basel has around 40 members and brings together Barça fans from the Swiss region and areas close to the borders with France and Germany.

Directors’ lunch

Following the reception, the Barça delegation headed to the official directors’ lunch, where they met FC Basel representatives David Degen, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Andrew Shannahan, member of the Board of Directors; and Jean-Paul Saija, Chief Commercial Officer. Alexandre Wacker also attended as a special guest.

In the few hours Barça have spent in Basel, the club has been impressed by the welcome given to the team and the passion for Barça in the Swiss city. Basel holds particularly fond memories for the culers, most notably the club’s first European Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in 1979 at St. Jakob-Park, the same stadium where Hansi Flick’s side will face FC Basel this Sunday at 4.30pm CEST.
