From one Kluivert to the next, 28 years after
Shane Kluivert made his first-team debut for FC Barcelona in Friday's 2-2 draw with Birmingham City, becoming the latest member of the Kluivert family to wear the blaugrana shirt. The 18-year-old forward was named in Hansi Flick's starting XI and played on the left wing during the first half.
Shane made his first-team bow almost 28 years after his father made his own Barça debut. Patrick remains the club's eighth-highest goalscorer of all time, having scored 122 goals in 257 appearances during six seasons at Barça.
Born in Zaandam on 24 September 2007, Shane joined La Masia in 2017 at the age of nine. After making more than 20 appearances and scoring twice for Juliano Belletti's Barça Atlètic during the 2025/26 season, the Dutch winger earned a place in Hansi Flick's first-team squad for pre-season.
Patrick Kluivert: debut on 2 September 1998
Patrick Kluivert arrived at Barcelona as an established striker. He signed from AC Milan on 28 August 1998 after spending one season in Italy, having previously enjoyed three outstanding campaigns with Ajax, where he famously scored the winning goal in the 1995 UEFA Champions League final.
Patrick made his first appearance for Barça in a friendly against Palamós on 2 September 1998, played to mark the Catalan club's centenary celebrations. He came on in the second half, just two days after being presented to the fans.
His official debut followed ten days later, on 12 September 1998, when he started and played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 La Liga victory over Extremadura.
