The 'Festa del Gamper Estrella Damm' has an opponent for Barça in preseason. Egyptian giants Al Ahly, the most successful team in African Football, will face Hansi Flick's side in the fixture on Wednesday 19 August, kick off at 8pm CEST at Spotify Camp Nou. 

Third debutant in a row 

Al Ahly will be making their first ever appearance in the Joan Gamper Trophy, the third season in a row that Barça will be facing new opposition in the preseason fixture. Last season Italian club Como 1907 made their debut in the Gamper game, losing 5-0. In 2024/25 AS Monaco celebrated their first ever Gamper appearance with a 3-0 win over Barça. 

Other debutants in recent seasons are Mexican side Pumas in 22/23, Elche in 20/21, Arsenal in 19/20, as well as Chapecoense (17/18), Roma (15/16), Club León (14/15) and Napoli (11/12). All were defeated by the blaugranes in the famous fixture.

First African side 

Al Ahly's presence in the 'Festa del Gamper Estrella Damm' is a first for African Football as they are the first club from the continent to take part in the game. The Egyptians are giants of the African continent, having won their domestic league 45 times and the African Champions League no less than 12 times.
