Hansi Flick has extended his contract with FC Barcelona until 2028. The news comes after sealing Barça’s 29th league title and completing a perfect league season at home at the Spotify Camp Nou, where the team claimed all 57 points available.
But Flick’s two years in charge have already delivered much more than silverware. His spell on the Barça bench has produced a string of records and milestones that already place him among the finest coaches in the club’s history, including joining the select group of managers to win the league in each of their first two seasons.
Second best win percentage
Flick’s style immediately won over his players from the very beginning. The German has taken charge of 116 matches, recording 88 wins, 10 draws and just 18 defeats. His 75.9% win rate is the second highest in club history, surpassed only by Luis Enrique, who posted a 76.2% win rate across 181 games.
Goals, goals and more goals
Those numbers began to take shape almost immediately. Under Flick, Barça equalled the cub’s second-best ever start to a league campaign, winning each of their opening seven matches. The 2024/25 season would go on to finish with 175 goals scored, making it the third-highest scoring campaign in club history.
The team has also managed to score in 55 consecutive league matches under Flick, the second-longest scoring streak in La Liga history which came to an end last week with the 1-0 loss at Alavés..
Unbeatable at home
Flick has also transformed the Spotify Camp Nou into a true fortress. The German is only the third Barça coach ever to complete a perfect home league campaign. Before him, only Enrique Fernández, in a 14-team league, and Helenio Herrera, on two occasions in a 16-team league, had managed the feat, both in shorter seasons with fewer matches. That is why Flick’s 19 home victories now go down in gold letters in the history books. A record for the ages.
Domination of Real Madrid
Under Flick, Barça have also established clear superiority over Real Madrid. Of the seven Clásicos he has coached, he has won six and lost just one, giving him an extraordinary 85.7% win rate.
Three of those victories came in the three finals Flick has managed with Barça. Not only did he win all three trophies on offer (two Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey) but he did so against the team's eternal rivals. Barça’s latest league title was also secured mathematically against Real Madrid, something unprecedented in club history.
Local heroes
Flick has also stood out for his faith in Barça’s youth system. During his tenure, thirteen La Masia players have made their first-team debuts: Marc Bernal, Gerard Martín, Pau Víctor, Sergi Domínguez, Andrés Cuenca, Toni Fernández, Dani Rodríguez, Jofre Torrents, Dro, Tommy Marqués, Xavi Espart and, most recently, Álvaro Cortés. Not forgetting Dani Olmo, who made his debut under Flick after returning to the club several years after leaving La Masia.
