The FC Barcelona roller hockey team lost out in the semi-finals of the Cup, going out to Calafell on penalties after a 1-0 penalty shoot out loss following a 3-3 draw in regular time. Denied by the wood work in the game and during the shoot out, Ricard Ares' team miss out on a chance to claim silverware.
Llorca breaks the deadlock
Aware of the prize at stake, both teams started the game with respect for each other. After a tight opening spell in which Xavi Barroso missed a good chance to put Barça ahead, the blaugranes finally took the lead when Sergi Llorca finished well on 15 minutes. That is how it stayed until half time with few chances for either side in the opening half.
Set pieces key
In the second half Barça continued to dominate possession with Calafell looking for the counter. Llorca struck the post before Calafell equalised from the penalty spot. Ferran Font was denied by the woodwork before Folguera put Calafella ahead with a goal from a direct hit on 33 minutes.
With time left to come back, the blaugranes levelled things up on 40 minutes with a goal for Sergi Llorca once again. Once again Calafell took advantage of a set piece as Folguera found the net again from a direct hit. However, a clever finish from Alabart made it 3-3 with just minutes remaining.
Extra time then penalties
In extra time chances were few and far between. Barça did have the chance to go ahead but keeper Martí Serra made a good stop from Alabart's penalty. The game went to a penalty shoot out and it was Calafell who excelled, taking their place in the final.
